Language Lessons

Liam's friend has decided he's going to teach us "English" it's making for some amusing conversations. Last night he started with "dinner" I happened to have said tea is ready. This morning trousers are "pants". I know he and Liam have had some other conversations related to this.

Our first nanny was from Canada, the second one was from Dunedin and our current nanny is from the Waikato. I have a sitting (or living) room with sofas and chests of drawers. The only one of our three nannies who uses the same words for all three of these things as me is the Canadian. (The others have used the words lounge, couch and/or dresser).

And I think I use all of those words at various times for the same items - but the one getting me in trouble here in Canada is "fortnight"!

Richard finds it difficult that people in his office don't understand half past or quarter to and hour, it's always .30 15 45.

Friend has no idea what we mean when we use 'boot' in relation to the car, so we haven't had that correction yet.
